Best Face Masks for Seborrheic Dermatitis

If you have seborrheic dermatitis on your face, you might be a little skeptical about trying a face mask. Your skin is too sensitive for that, right? Not necessarily! What’s great about a mask, is that it really cleans out those pores. As discussed before, seborrheic dermatitis kinda makes you think you have dry skin, but really its a gross yeasty oily situation oozing form your pores and causing drama. Deep cleaning can help rid yourself of that scourge!

An esthetician even told me I could occasionally do a “course” of deep cleaning. Meaning, I could apply a mask every day for 5 – 7 days in a row. This will really clean those pores. You can do that twice a year. It can clear up acne or seborrheic dermatitis.

Here some that I have personally USED, ranked favorite to least favorite:

Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay: This is the Internet’s favorite mask. And I have to say that I AGREE!!! It give you a deeeeeep pore cleaning and yet somehow it is actually does not irritate me. It words amazing on seborrheic dermatitis spots or acne zones. Its is a powder, basically dirt! You have to mix it with water or toner (I like Neutragena Acne Stress Control Toner). Do not use apple cider vinegar with it, as many bloggers have recommended. I spoke with an aesthetician and she said that vinegar should never be on your skin, as it will change the Ph balance. The biggest negative is how MESSY it is. For sure buy the mask kit, which makes it easier.

Anna Lotan Soothing Mask: This stuff is awesome! Its more for soothing than for deep cleaning, so I use this when I feel like I NEED MY SKIN TO LOOK BETTER ASAP. It is advertised also for using on a baby’s cradle cap.

Garnier SkinActive Pore Purifying 2-in-1 Clay Cleanser/Mask: This mask is great, because you can also just use it as a cleanser. I use this as my “deep cleaner” whenever I don’t feel like the mess that the Aztec Mud Mask makes. I also sometimes use it as a cleanser when I’m wanting a little more than my usual cleanser.

Dead Sea Mud Mask: I got this mask because I’ve heard a lot of good things from seborrheic dermatitis sufferers who praise the benefits of dead sea salt. This goopy green mask is very gentle, not too harsh. But it also doesn’t give you WOW results. It is a little bit clarifying, and a little bit soothing. But I included it for those of you who are hesitant to try a mask, worried that it will be juts a bit “too much” for your sensitive skin. This is a great first mask!

  1. Thank You for your blog. I found a lot of great info here. I do have some of the products you mention too!
    Question;
Do you feel the SD flares up in winter or in summer?
    For me it’s winter time.

BTW I am a male and you wouldn’t believe the hard time other males for taking care of my appearance!

I find your blog really helpful.

    Keep it alive!

    Thanks

I have problems with SD mostly on my face, although I have KP/chicken skin issues on my arms and butt. Cetaphyl made a huge difference there. I was using crushed aspirin (acid) and lemon juice but it was hugely messy, and a LOT of work so I Googled till this product came up (has glycerin in it) and it worked. My husband’s typically, cracked and bleeding winter hands are now beautifully soft and HE loves that, so product as well.
NO OILS on my skin/huge, negative reaction so I have been dry brushing (almost 2 years) and my shower consists of a 1 minute, almost cold water rinse, and I don’t even do that often. My clothes aren’t ‘dirty’ near the neck, I use NO deodorant, and I use Cetaphyl on back of my arms, and forearms almost every day. I also use it on my neck and chest.
On my face, nothing but the oil free, cream Gel by Neutrogena, and only at night. I wash my face with organic ‘Manuka’ honey, rising with water with a tsp. of coarse SEA salt in it. I astringe using Apple Cider Vinegar and often do that after washing and in the morning after I have rinsed (JUST my eyes, with honey). I have chronic blepharitis and the eye specialist recommendation was horrid – you can get honey IN your eyes, and it’s healthy.
As to the grease build up in my hair, all from overactive sebum, I finally started treating like the rest of my skin. NO shampoo or ANY product. After the greasy, transition period my hair became almost like a transplant. I wash my hair with Rye Flour made into a thick paste with water. Rinse with cool water (warm water makes your skin product OIL) and rinse like crazy – rye flower is quite grainy and it takes a bit to get it all out. If there is some left after hair dries (naturally), use your hands and massage your scalp and with head facing down, comb through hair with fingers until it stops raining rye. I rinse with ACV and do not rinse it out.
Lastly, regardless of diet and no chemical regime, my HEAD gets thick with oil, and I do NOT brush it. I use a shower comb only on wet or dry hair. A spritz of diluted ACV will take away a little itch, but as I only wash my thickened, unbelievably shiny and healthy hair every 7-10 days, at least once before then I use the juice of two lemons (strained) to cover my scalp, put on a cotton wrap for 1/2 hour or so, and then rinse the juice out with COOL water. it’s amazing; I don’t know where the oil build up goes, but the lemon juice removes it.
Every a.m., I wake with major bed head and the solution to that is simply a very cold, under the kitchen tap rinse, blot dry and comb out. My hair stylist can’t believe how different my hair is now, although he thinks I’m a bit crazy, AND at 67, I have MORE hair than I’ve ever had in my life, which I attribute going chemical free wherever I can.

  4. Hi,
    Thanks for your blog.
I have had seb derm for 20 years. I have tried many, many different things, as you have. The last 12-13 years or so I have almost only used the Dermadoctor Cool, calm and corrected cream. It calmes my skin, is not oily and in some way seems to regulate it. I have tried other things in between, because when times come to reorder, I think about how expensive it is, but I’ve always resigned to the fact that it really works. Sometimes stress makes my seb derm worse, but CCC is the best I’ve found. Just thought I’d give my advice.
Oh, for my scalp I use mostly head and shoulders, but when I itch this shampoo has been very good https://www.apotek1.no/produkter/selukos-25mg-ml-sjampo-100ml-3541p
It’s contains selensulfide. Maybe a good thing for fighting seb derm?
    All the best!

  5. Fellow SD sufferer here! I love love Yonka mask 103. Initially I purchased it for oil control/occasional outbreaks on my chin so it is gentle enough to use on your face. It definitely dries up any excess oil that’s present. In my case my SD is definitely worse at the base of my crown, neck, ears, and hairline. In especially bad flare ups this mask has been a savior. I simply apply and let sit fir about 20 minutes before showering. Be well!
